My Daily Political Statement

The House will vote TODAY sometime between 1 - 2:30pm, Thursday July 22, on H.R. 3313, the so-called "Marriage Protection Act." This is a sneak attack on the GLBT community - proponents of the bill think that nobody is paying attention, since the Federal Marriage Amendment failed so spectacularly last week in the Senate.

It is crucial that we show Representatives that we ARE paying attention to their vote. PLEASE call Representative Bud Cramer RIGHT NOW, before you do anything else today - and then send this message to others in your community.

Here's what you should say:

"My name is and I am a constituent of Representative Cramer's. I am calling to urge him/her to vote AGAINST H.R. 3313, the Marriage Protection Act. This bill would undermine the Supreme Court as well as other federal courts - it's simply un-American to try to deny an entire group of citizens their day in court. Can you tell me how Representative Cramer will vote?"

Then e-mail field@hrc.org to tell us how the staff member says Representative Cramer will vote on the Marriage Protection Act.

If you haven't been paying attention, the Marriage Protection Act, if passed, will DENY courts (yes, Congress is trying to deny access to due legal process!) the ability to hear cases pertaining to gay marriage. Beyond the whole gay rights thing, this is just sickening. It's 1984 all over again. Gov't trying to tell us what we can and can't complain about. So please take like 5 minutes and call Cramer. (If you're registered in this area.) I did... they were very nice; she took my name, address and number and a message to vote NO. (Cramer's in an appropriations meeting at the moment. Not even at the debate on this bill!)

Cats are gross

Don't get me wrong, they're adorable and I love them. But on top of the sneezing and swollen eyes... this apartment reeks. Valkyrie won't use the litter box. I need to vacuum and wet vac so bad. And keep them in that back room. And thor had crap all over his behind. So I bathed him. That was fun. And one of them got residual poo all over my quilt. So I slept under my old twin comforter. Did I mention they're stinky?

If anyone knows anything about raising kittens (especially keeping them smelling tolerable) let me know! I'm a dog person!

WHAT THE FUCK????

They passed it. These assholes passed it. And DEMOCRAT Rep. Cramer voted yes. That sick asshole. Look at this language in this bill:

`No court created by Act of Congress shall have any jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court shall have no appellate jurisdiction, to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, section 1738C or this section.'. (the section they're referring to is the Defense of Marriage Act.)

In short: "NO COURT IN THIS COUNTRY CAN TELL US WHAT TO DO." Not even the Supreme Court.

I don't care if you don't give a damn about gay rights. You could be the most Crispy gay-basher in the world. You HAVE to be outraged by this. If you have any soul at all, if you care at all about your rights as a human being or as an American, if you believe at all what they taught you in school, you have to realize that this is WRONG. This is Congress attempting to put the kebash on the checks-and-balances system that has made America work for over 200 years. This is one branch pulling power from the others. These are the people YOU elected, trying to tell you that they know what's best for you, and you don't need a court system. THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHT TO LEGAL ACTION!

What's next? Women can't sue? Poor people can't sue? Only white male landowners can decide what is legal and what isn't? They had it 20 years too late... it's 2004, not 1984.

As they say... if you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
